LAGRANGE — A promising start turned into a tough finish for the Woodington Raiders on Thursday, as they fell 9-1 to Frink after a big fifth inning swung the momentum.
Blaire Howard gave Woodington (2-2) an early spark with a solo inside-the-park home run in the top of the first inning, but that would be the lone run the Raiders could push across.
Frink evened the score in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on a Woodington defensive miscue. Things unraveled for the Raiders in the fifth, when Kenzie Carson delivered an RBI single to break the tie. Another error allowed the lead to stretch to 5-1, and Frink never looked back.
Howard pitched into the sixth, allowing eight hits and nine runs—only three of them earned—while striking out seven and walking three. She also accounted for one of the team’s two hits, finishing 1-for-3 with the Raiders’ lone RBI. Madilyn Parker added the other hit for Woodington.
Frink’s Carson was electric both at the plate and in the circle. She went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and stole three bases. On the mound, Carson tossed a complete game two-hitter, striking out 14 without issuing a walk. Ariel also chipped in two hits for Frink, while Palmer and Kenzie led the team with two RBIs each.
The Raiders will look to bounce back on Monday with a road test at Jones.
