North Lenoir Clinches Conference Title, Improves to 12-1 With Back-to-Back Wins
The North Lenoir boys tennis team continued its dominant run with two more convincing victories this week, defeating North Johnston 9-0 and Martin County 8-1. With the wins, the Hawks improved to 12-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play, officially clinching the conference championship.
Junior Casey Alston led the charge with a statement win against North Johnston’s Ben Cuddington — a 2024 state qualifier and the only player to defeat Alston earlier this season. Alston avenged that loss in commanding fashion, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 victory in singles play.
In the match against North Johnston, the Hawks swept all nine courts, dominating in both singles and doubles without dropping a set. Freshmen Tyler Carson and Timothy Wiggins continued to impress, each securing 6-0, 6-0 wins and teaming up for a doubles shutout.
North Lenoir followed up with an 8-1 win over Martin County, again showcasing depth across the roster. Alston, Smith, and the Yarus brothers delivered strong results, with the Hawks winning five of six singles courts and taking two of three in doubles.
Now riding a wave of momentum, the Hawks turn their attention to a challenging stretch of non-conference matchups next week against Clinton, Greene Central, and Arendell Parrott Academy.
