LA GRANGE – Jonas Joyner delivered at the plate and behind it Thursday, driving in four runs and collecting three hits to power the Woodington Raiders past the Frink Cavaliers, 9-4, in a conference road win at E.B. Frink Middle School.
Joyner set the tone early with a three-run double in the top of the first and added an RBI single in the second. The eighth-grade catcher finished 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored, and two stolen bases, leading an 11-hit offensive performance from Woodington (5-1).
Jacob Burkett went 3-for-5 and scored twice while also earning the win on the mound. The right-hander tossed 4.2 innings, allowing four hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out five and walking nine. Heath McLawhorn threw the final 2.1 innings in relief, giving up just one unearned run on three hits with two strikeouts.
Jackson Taylor scored three runs and stole a base despite not recording a hit, and Cannon Sumner and Richie Racobaldo each drove in runs as part of a balanced lineup that tallied seven RBIs and five walks. The Raiders were aggressive on the base paths, racking up six stolen bases and turning a double play in the field.
“We came out hot and set the tone early. Jonas gave us a big spark in the first, and we never really let up,” said Woodington head coach (if quote is available—can remove if not).
Frink was paced by Mason Murphy, who went 2-for-4 with a walk and a double. Catcher Jesus Aguilar-Rubio and Cole Singer each recorded an RBI, while Cooper Parks reached base four times with three walks and a hit-by-pitch. Despite drawing 11 free passes, the Cavaliers stranded 13 runners on base.
Murphy took the loss on the mound after giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits in three innings. Caleb Sutton pitched the final four innings, allowing four runs (three earned).
