South Lenoir’s Callie Tyndall Signs to Chowan University
DEEP RUN – South Lenoir senior Callie Tyndall’s journey in softball has been nothing short of inspiring. A four-year starter for the Blue Devils, Tyndall officially signed to continue her career at Chowan University, fulfilling a dream she has nurtured since her early days on the diamond.
Tyndall’s career statistics showcase her versatility and impact on the field. At the plate, she’s batted .304 across 63 games, recording 56 hits, 67 RBIs, 16 doubles, two triples, and nine home runs—three of which were grand slams—with a slugging percentage of .559. On the mound, she’s been just as dominant, holding a 9-2 career record with a 1.96 ERA. Over 135 innings pitched, she has struck out an impressive 159 batters while allowing only 38 runs.
But her achievements extend far beyond the stats. Tyndall has been a cornerstone for South Lenoir softball, a leader both on and off the field. Her work ethic and determination have not gone unnoticed by her coach, Madison Harvey.
“Callie is one of the hardest workers I know,” Harvey said. “She’s constantly in the cage throwing bullpens or hitting front toss with her dad or boyfriend. I am extremely dependent on Callie. She’s a leader that helps set the tone for the team. She can play the corners, first and third. I think this year, you’ll see her pitching or playing a corner.”
Tyndall’s love for softball wasn’t immediate. She recalled a time when she wasn’t sure about playing the sport, but everything changed during her travel ball years.
“When I first started, I really didn’t want to play softball, but once I kept playing around 10U-12U, I knew I wanted to go to college to play,” Tyndall said.
For her father, Ray Tyndall, this moment is especially meaningful. He shared how her softball journey began almost by chance after being spotted by Bobby Hatcher and Joe Rouse during a volleyball game at Southwood.
“When she was 8, Bobby and Joe came up to me and asked if she played softball or was interested in playing,” he said. “At the time, she was playing baseball with the boys. By the time she was 9, she would watch the older girls pitch and was fascinated. I came home from work one day and found her in the yard going through the motions. She’s self-taught—she’s never had a pitching coach.”
Tyndall credited her growth to those who’ve supported her, including her family, coaches, and travel ball experiences. “I want to thank all my travel ball coaches, high school coaches, and especially my dad—we practiced a lot growing up,” she said.
Her mother, Monica Tyndall, shared a heartfelt message during the signing ceremony, capturing the emotion of the moment:
“I am so proud of you. This has been one of your dreams ever since you started playing softball, and your dedication and hard work have paid off. I can’t wait to see you play at the next level as a Hawk. You are an amazing person inside and out, and you’ve been a blessing to me and so many others. All our travels and tiresome days away from home have been well worth every minute, and I wouldn’t hesitate to do it all over again.”
As Tyndall prepares for her senior season, she looks forward to one final chapter with South Lenoir before heading to Chowan.
“I’m really excited to see how it all unfolds,” she said. “I think we can be pretty good if we just stick to it.”
With her talent, drive, and unwavering support system, Tyndall’s next chapter as a Hawk promises to be as remarkable as her journey thus far.
