APA Patriots Playoff Preview

The Arendell Parrott Academy Patriots are once again heading to the NCISAA State Playoffs after finishing the season on a nine game winning streak. The Patriots defeated Wayne Christian Academy last Friday 60-20 which rewarded them with another Confrence Championship and the #1 seed in the playoffs. 

The bracket for the playoffs was released on Sunday revealing a first round matchup with the #8 seed St. Davids (Raleigh). Lets take a deeper dive into the Patriots regular season and their first round matchup.

#1 Arendell Parrott Academy vs. #8 St. Davids

The Patriots (9-1, 7-0)  will host the Warriors (4-5, 2-5) Friday night at Hodges Field. This will be the second matchup between the teams this year. The Patriots traveled to Raleigh in early September and defeated the Warriors 64-26. 

#5 Jaylen Solomon led the Patriots offensively with 11 rushes for 265 yards and 4 touchdowns. #11 Mason Mooring also had a big game accumulating 73 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns on 7 carries. Quarterback #8 Chris Stimson went 5 of 8 for 120 yards and one touchdown to #3 Ben Barrett.

#21 Cade Mixon and #13 Will Stimson were two of the many standouts for the Patriots on the defensive side of the ball. Mixon had 19 total tackles with 2 being for a loss, while Stimson had 2 interceptions in the game.

St. Davids is led by ATH #3 Benjamin Young III. Young has carried the ball 173 times for 1,690 yards and found the endzone 21 times. Playing at Quarterback for the Warriors is #15 Spence Saik. Saik has 691 passing yards completing 39 of his 75 passes this season. Saik has 10 passing touchdowns while also adding 5 rushing touchdowns. Defensively, the Warriors lean heavy on Sophmore #23 Grant Simpson. The linebacker has 96 total tackles with 10 coming for a loss.

Patriots Regular Season Review:

The Patriots led by Head Coach Matt Beaman finished the season 9-1 overall and 7-0 in conference play. The Patriots traveled to Tennessee to face Evangel Christian (AL) in their season opener. The Patriots would drop the game 38-19 but would then go on to win nine in a row.  The Patriots have scored 542 points this season while only allowing 235. They have scored at least 52 points per game this season while averaging 443.7 yards per game. 

Offensive Leaders:

Quarterback: 

  • #8 (Jr) Chris Stimson: 53-88 for 1,103 yards. 14 passing touchdowns and 1 interception. Quarterback rating of 139.2.

Runningback:

  • #5 (Sr) Jaylen Solomon: 154 rushes for 2,111 yards. 32 rushing touchdowns.

  • #11 (Sr) Mason Mooring: 44 rushes for 381 yards. 9 rushing touchdowns.

  • #30 (Sr) Luke Stocks: 28 rushes for 249 yards. 3 rushing touchdwons.

  • #7 (Sr) Braden Shaver: 23 rushes for 295 yards. 3 rushing touchdowns.

Receiving:

  • #3 (Jr) Ben Barrett: 29 catches for 676 yards and 10 touchdowns.

  • #5 (Sr) Jaylen Solomon: 11 catches for 191 yards and 3 touchdowns.

  • #11 (Sr) Mason Mooring Jr.: 6 catches for 135 yards and 1 touchdown.

  • #42 (Jr) Tanner Outlaw: 4 catches for 48 yards and 1 touchdown.

Defensive Leaders:

  • #21 (Sr) Cade Mixon: 166 total tackles, 21 for loss, 3 sacks and 2 interceptions.

  • #30 (Sr) Luke Stocks: 79 total tackles, 10 for loss and 2 interceptions.

  • #11 (Sr) Mason Mooring: 63 total tackles, 10 for loss and 1 sack.

  • #34 (Jr) Brody Kuszyk: 68 total tackles, 7 for loss and 1 sack.

  • #13 (Jr) Will Stimson: 49 total tackles and 4 interceptions.

  • #82 (So) Brooks Grady: 78 total tackles, 8 for loss and 1 sack.

  • #84 (Jr) Zadoc Fanning: 25 tackles, 4 for loss and 3 sacks.

Special Teams Leaders:

  • #7 (Sr) Braden Shaver: 2 kickoff return touchdowns and 1 punt return touchdown.

  • #5 (Sr) Jaylen Solomon: 1 punt return touchdown.
