2025 EPC Girls Basketball Tournament
No. 4 Greene Central will face No. 5 North Pitt at Washington tonight (Monday) at 6:00 p.m. The winner will advance to the second round to take on No. 1 seed West Craven on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
No. 4 Greene Central (11-10, 6-5) vs. No. 5 North Pitt (10-14, 6-6)
These two teams split their regular-season matchups. The Rams won the first meeting 49-46 at North Pitt on December 13, but the Panthers responded with a 51-40 victory at Greene Central on January 29. In the first game, Greene Central had senior point guard Arlisha Mason, who is no longer with the team. North Pitt capitalized on Mason’s absence in the rematch, securing the win.
Heading into the tournament, the Rams have momentum, winning three of their last four games, while North Pitt has struggled, dropping three of their last four contests.
In what will be a tough matchup for the Rams, Sykiah Lancaster and An’Nyshia Wooten must step up as leaders and key contributors. They’ll face a challenge in stopping North Pitt’s Zihanna Lightfoot, who is averaging 14.4 points, 12.6 rebounds, 2.2 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game.
Greene Central has the talent to answer the challenge, with Wooten also averaging a double-double at 14.3 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game—leading the Rams in all three categories. Lancaster, the team’s primary ball handler, plays a crucial role, averaging 10 points per game. The supporting cast will also be vital, particularly Jayce Russell, who contributes 7.6 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.
With both teams looking to gain an edge in this decisive matchup, expect an intense battle as they fight for a spot in the second round.
