NCHSAA Releases ADM Numbers for 2025-29 Realignment, Finalizing New Classifications
The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) has officially released the Average Daily Membership (ADM) numbers for the 2024-25 school year, finalizing the classifications for its upcoming realignment cycle. Beginning with the 2025-26 school year, the NCHSAA will move to an eight-classification model, a departure from the current four-class structure.
In April 2024, the NCHSAA approved the "Big 32" model, which places the 32 schools with the largest ADM numbers into the 8A classification. The remaining schools are divided into seven classifications, each with approximately 59 schools.
Local Schools and Their Classifications
- North Lenoir: 4A Classification, largest ADM in the class (954)
- Greene Central: 3A Classification, 5th highest ADM in the class (778)
- South Lenoir: 3A Classification (722)
- Kinston: 3A Classification (659)
- Jones Senior: 1A Classification (336)
The new classifications aim to ensure competitive balance and provide equitable competition across schools of similar size.
