he South Lenoir Blue Devils opened their 2023 Football Season on the road against the North Johnston Panthers in Kenly, NC. The Blue Devils fumbled the ball three times during the sweltering matchup. Two of those fumbles were returned by the Panthers for touchdowns. The Panthers also added another TD on the ground in the first quarter. At halftime, the score was 22-0, which also became the final score.
"We have the talent and the heart," Giesleman emphasized. "Now it's about putting it all together and executing on both sides of the ball."
"Right now we are young. Sometimes we see mistakes, some are young mistakes. They're gonna have to grow, and we're gonna grow as a team and a coaching staff," Sellers said. "We did see some bright spots tonight."
The Junior Varsity Kinston Football team faced South Central in their season opener, a game that Kinston Coach Corey Bryant described as a "tale of two halves."

The tournament concluded with Perquimans High School volleyball team winning the championship match against Farmville Central in a thrilling third set.
In a strong start to the season, the local soccer team secured victory in the 2023 Cougar Classic, defeating Wake Christian 5-3 and High Point Christian Academy 5-1.
"Girls in Kinston that play basketball don't get as many chances as boys and we get overlooked. I want to be the person that can give girls that opportunity," Kelly said.
The event, free to all ages, is scheduled for August 24 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m., with registration beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Kinston High School.

North Lenoir High School's announcement of Cameron Sherrer as the next head baseball coach has sent waves of excitement through the local sports community. Coach Sherrer, who served as an assistant under Jackson Massey last season and coached with the Kinston Wingmen this past summer, is eagerly looking forward to continuing the rich baseball tradition at North Lenoir.
